EMILY TÅHLIN

MEADOW

For Uppsala-based songwriter Emily Tåhlin, nature is the one true piece of art. It is built from a condition of chaos, and composed of ever changing forces, just like life itself. When truly thinking about it - to exist in this world is a deeply mystical experience, an insight that can sometimes cause a feeling of alienation. “Meadow” explores the idea that this feeling can in fact give rise to a deep sensation of belonging. For when viewing oneself as part of nature, as part of this chaos, a special space can be created: a space for rest, for coexistence, for being held.

Influenced by Swedish jazz like Monica Zetterlund, and the 60’s/70’s folk scene including artists like Nick Drake and Joni Mitchel, Tåhlin creates a unique sound where the lyrics and melody are tightly interwoven. The music is often flowing in a dream-like sound landscape, but without creating a distance to the listener, much due to the depth and personal expression of Tåhlin’s voice.

“Meadow” is produced by Emily Tåhlin and David Åhlen, recorded at Swedens´s royal college of music and Helter Skelter Studios, and mixed and mastered by Manne Von Ahn Öberg (producer of Stina Nordenstam, Nicolai Dunger, David Åhlen among others) at White Chapel Studios, Jävrebyn. Musicians contributing to the song include Marcus Wärnheim (saxophone) and Johan Tengholm (double-bass). The cover is made by Therese Jochelson.

“Meadow” is the first single from the upcoming debut EP from Emily Tåhlin, set for release in the fall of 2022.
